A free course for eligible Hackney residents. This two-day course provides an easy to follow, hands-on introduction to HTML and CSS, the basic languages that drive the Internet. Participants will learn how to create attractive and well-structured web pages and web content using basic HTML and CSS. This workshop is recommended for anyone wishing to learn how to create websites and also for people who need to be able to edit and control existing websites or HTML newsletters. Outcomes
Completing this HTML & CSS course will enable you to do the following and more:
- Understand how HTML and CSS function together
- Use standard elements such as hyperlinks, DIVs, forms and lists
- Create standards compliant web pages and sites
- Use professional developer tools
- Be aware of search engine optimisation practices (SEO)
- Be comfortable editing and updating existing web pages

Requirements
This course is provided free of charge to Hackney residents who have UK/EU citizenship and were aged 19 or older on 31/08/2024. To enrol you will need to have a Hackney address. The course runs on 2 days - one day a week for 2 weeks.
A deposit of £20 is required to book. The full deposit is refundable on completion of the course. To complete the course you must attend on both days and complete the enrolment form and any other requested GLA funding related forms.
Booking
Places are booked on a first come first served basis. We are operating a stand by / waiting list in case courses are fully booked. This workshop is suitable for anyone with basic PC or Mac skills who wants to understand how the web works. No previous knowledge or experience of HTML or CSS is necessary. If English is not your first language you should have a good level of English in order to participate.
